Insulation is one of the most cost-effective upgrades for a Massachusetts home, and the Mass Save program can cover a large share of the cost. Here is what homeowners should know in 2026.
What Is Mass Save?
Mass Save is an energy efficiency program sponsored by Massachusetts utilities and energy providers. It offers rebates and incentives to help residents reduce energy use, including insulation and air sealing.
How Much Can You Save?
Mass Save currently offers a rebate covering a large portion of eligible insulation costs for most customers, and income-eligible households may qualify for no-cost insulation. Amounts and rules change each program year, so always confirm current terms at masssave.com.
Note that the federal energy efficiency tax credit for insulation (Section 25C) ended on December 31, 2025, which makes state and utility programs like Mass Save even more important.
How the Process Works
- Schedule a free Home Energy Assessment through Mass Save.
- Receive recommendations for insulation and air sealing in your attic, walls and basement.
- Hire a participating contractor to complete the work.
- The rebate is applied according to current program rules.
What Areas Are Covered?
- Attic insulation
- Wall insulation
- Basement and crawl space insulation
- Air sealing
Financing the Rest
Mass Save also offers the HEAT Loan, a 0% interest financing option for qualifying energy efficiency improvements, which can help with any remaining balance.
